Vondon R. McCormick Vondon R. McCormick, 90, of South Charleston, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2007, at Hubbard Hospice House after a long illness He was an employee of Union Carbide with 37 years of service, retiring as a maintenance supervisor in 1979. He was of member of the Church of God, where he held positions as a Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, and A board member. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mellie and Effie McCormick; brother, Dorsel; and a sister, Myrtle Banks. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Ruby; Sons, Ray of Charlotte, N.C., R. Frederick and wife, Vera, of South Charleston; daughter Beverly and husband, Robert O. Cavender of Largo, Fla.; grandchildern, Susan Verhaalen and fiancee, Craig King of Charlotte, N.C., Derrick Johns of Winchester, Ky., Debbie Vance and husband, Don, of Lexington, Ky., Rob Cavender and wife, Susan, of Gambrills, Md., Greg Cavender and wife, Tammy, of Excello, Mo.; five great-grandchildern; brothers, Bernie and wife, ada, Rexford Herbert and wife, Sharyan; and sisters, Revel Smith, Edna Baker, Lavern Bonhague, Glenna Anderson and Anna Lois Hodges and husband, Lee. Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Good Shepherd Mortuary, South Charleston, with the Rev. J.C. Burchett officiating. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Pallbearers will be Church of God Ministers of the Kanawha Valley. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
